How to enhance the environmental sustainability of WEEE plastics management: An LCA study

The project partner UNIVAN (Università degli studi della Campania Luigi Vanvitelli) wrote a paper that quantifies the environmental performances of the NONTOX innovations by an attributional Life Cycle Assessment.

NONTOX approach dedicated to plastics from waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) includes innovations on sorting, dissolution/precipitation, extrusion, catalytic pyrolysis, and plastic upgrading.

The NONTOX treatment scheme is compared to those currently adopted in Europe, which include conventional mechanical recycling and thermal treatments as well as improper options of dumping and open burning, largely applied to WEEE plastics exported to developing countries.
