6th Consortium Meeting of NONTOX

On 16th and 17th of November 2021, the NONTOX beneficiaries attended the 6th Consortium Meeting of the project. The meeting was organized in a hybrid format to allow the participation of as many partners as possible.

The face-to-face meeting has been hosted by IMDEA Energy, in Móstoles (Madrid, Spain). IMDEA Energy is the NONTOX partner responsible for the thermocatalytic conversion of non-target plastics and of the side streams coming from the new mechanical recycling processes; IMDEA Energy is also dealing with the removal and safe disposal of the hazardous substances from those streams. The developments introduced in the thermochemical conversion field, thanks to the IMDEA Energy research and experimentations, will contribute to increase the recycling rate of waste plastics, avoiding landfilling and incineration of those non-mechanically recyclable streams.

Thus, the 6th NONTOX Consortium Meeting was also a great opportunity to visit the IMDEA Energy facilities and the set-up of the catalytic pyrolysis experimental plant developed to run the NONTOX activities.

Overall, along the meeting project, partners updated each other about the ongoing progresses and decided together the next steps for an efficient collaboration.

During the first day of work, Work Packages operative progresses have been presented by WP leaders and discussed in plenum in a very interactive way. Moreover, Annemieke van de Runstraat from TNO presented the PLAST2BCLEANED project; the aim of the guest presentation was to improve cross-project collaboration.

The second day of the meeting was dedicated to the Management Committee and General Assembly Meetings, focused on administrative issues as well as on the identification of exploitation opportunities. Moreover, project partners are very grateful to the NONTOX Project Office Roberto Ensenat Waser, that, during this second day of the event, joined the meeting introducing himself and providing valuable suggestions regarding how to effectively proceed with research activities. They were really fruitful and sunny days in Madrid. Looking forward to meeting you again in May 2022!
